Rules & Regulations

Norwell Youth Cheerleading

NYC Code of Conduct: As is customary with any organized sport, NYC maintains a code of conduct that all participants must adhere to. It is imperative to uphold this standard, as poor conduct reflects on the entire NYC organization. We set high expectations for our cheerleaders and expect behavior consistent with our rules & regulations.

  • All NYC participants are required to demonstrate cooperation and positive engagement. Disruption or misconduct before, during, or after practice and games is unacceptable.

Respect for all is mandatory. Any unsportsmanlike behavior, whether directed towards other teams, cheerleaders, coaches, high school coaches, or volunteers, will not be tolerated. Athletes are expected to cheer on the opposing school's cheerleaders after their performance, as we do a chant for them.

  • All cheerleaders are required to attend all games and practices. Failure to attend Wednesday practice will result in exclusion from the halftime performance that week. Please keep in mind that cheerleading is a commitment and a team sport.

If an athlete needs to miss a practice or game, parents and guardians should inform their respective coaches via text or through the BAND App. If the athlete has a conflicting commitment, please notify coaches as soon as possible. In case of illness, please provide coaches with as much advance notice as possible.

  • It's crucial for athletes to be dropped off and picked up on time. Warm-ups are vital to prevent injuries. Please respect everyone's time, especially the coaches, who volunteer and have other responsibilities. Running late worries athletes, and it gets dark soon after practice. If you're running late, please notify your child or a coach.

Please ensure that athletes bring only necessary items to practice and games, such as poms, water, and a warm jacket for cooler nights.

Athletes are required to wear approved cheerleading shoes at all practices. No athlete will be permitted to practice without these shoes, as improper footwear during stunts could pose a risk of injury to other athletes.

  • No jewelry is allowed. We cannot guarantee its safety or presence at the end of practice.

No makeup is permitted at games, and please ensure nails are trimmed to prevent potential injuries while stunting.

Any injury must be promptly reported to coaches.

  • Hair must be completely pulled back unless bangs are cut above the eyes. We want to see all the smiles and beautiful eyes of the girls. Littles, high ponytails should be positioned on top of the head with the bow facing outward. Bigs, low ponytails with the bow facing the back are preferred.

Athletes must wear the correct uniform at all games. Katy will likely provide guidance on what to wear based on the weather, but if unsure, it's best to pack everything.

Athletes should use the bathroom before practice. If they need to go at the beginning, please take them, as this ties up coaches.

During games, parents will be asked to bring girls to the bathroom. Coaches must be on the sidelines at all times with the girls. If you are not staying for the entire game, please make arrangements with other families to assist with bathroom breaks.

Please arrive one hour early for games. Be punctual and meet us promptly, as we have a lot to cover and limited time.

No food or gum is allowed in uniforms. If necessary, wear the jacket over or another T-shirt. If staying for games after practice, bring a change of clothes.

Halftime is designated for the football players to take a break and regroup. We will allow a quick bathroom break and water refill after our performance. Girls are expected to stay at the sidelines if they are not using the bathroom. This is not a snack break, so please do not bring food to them.

The football team plays rain or shine, and the game will proceed in the rain, as will the cheerleaders.

Fridays at school are our spirit days. Girls can wear their uniforms, t-shirts, jackets, etc. Remember, when wearing the uniforms, you are representing Norwell Youth Cheer, and we're awesome! So, we know you'll be awesome, kind, respectful, and upbeat all day. Middle schoolers, please be mindful of the dress code and follow it accordingly.

  • Fundraising activities include Hilliard Chocolate Candy Sales throughout the season and the Norwell Farm pop-up performance and snacks on Wednesday, Sept 18th from 4-7pm, with a square raffle.

Picture day for both team and individual photos will be held. Photos are $25, and purchasing them is not mandatory.

The fall youth cheerleading season is short, and every athlete has dedicated themselves to the team and their teammates. Please make every effort to attend all practices and games. It is a privilege and an honor to be part of this organization. In NYC, bullying of any kind is not tolerated; it is crucial that all athletes foster positive relationships as this is a team-oriented sport. If a cheerleader is facing difficulties, we encourage athletes to offer their assistance. Supporting one another strengthens the team significantly. Every individual's emotions are valuable, and we expect all athletes to treat each other with respect and compassion. Stand proud, united, and represent Norwell with pride.
